Carly's reflux

This post is to catch up on the Carly reflux thing....

So last month was Carly going to the Doctors.  She had a VCUG done, it showed that her reflux had gotten worse.  So we had an ultrasound of her renal system.  Everything looked totally normal and great.  Then we met with a urologist who suggested we do surgery to fix the reflux.  She said that we could do 3 things really.

1. Surgery (with a 95% success rate) and can be done as an out patient procedure.
2. Deflux- which is inject a gel where the ureter connects to the bladder to stop the urine from traveling back up.
3. Wait and see what happens at next years VCUG.

Here is an illustration of reflux.  Because the damage it does is from when Carly "pushes" pee out.  That push/stress sends urine back up the ureter (right side only) and stretches out the ureter (which is why she is at grade 3 now. The right ureter is stretched out more).

Reflux of urine during micturition

So yeah, we don't really know what to do.  I said how most the time Carly has a little pee in her underwear when she has to go to the bathroom.  The urologist said we could try to put her on a muscle relaxer and that may help.  She said that the reason it could be a grade 3 now is because Carly is holding pee too long and then really pushing it out and it doesn't before that a little could be coming out.   So we may try that for a while and see if it helps.  I really don't know what to do. I don't really want to put her through surgery and that Deflux thing doesn't have that great of a success rate (plus you have to do another VCUG about 6 months after to see if it's working)....
